A-Z of me!

Link to original image
I saw this A-Z idea in one of the blogs that I follow by Meridian Ariel. I think it's an interesting idea so I thought I'd have a try too.

A. Age: Luckily for me I don’t look my age! Over 30
B. Bed size: That really weird queen size-ish that Ikea does. I have the most comfy bed. Love it
C. Chore you dislike: Hoovering. I am so not a chores person!
D. Dogs: I don’t mind them but I’m a cat person. I love their independence. It's great when a cat chooses to sit with you because they really don't have to!
E. Essential start to your day: Liz Earle cleanse, polish and moisturiser followed by Bare Essentuals and Laura Geller (glow box) make up. This is why I don’t look my age!
F. Favorite colour: Blue. Always has been. So many shades, so many moods
G. Gold or silver: Silver. My Mum always wears white gold so I have always preferred that look of metal. And now I make silver clay jewellery!
H. Height: 5ft 9. Maybe. About that
I. Instruments you play(ed): I played recorder and piano. I’d like to learn guitar but I think I need the discipline of lessons. I have a guitar and really don’t pick it up much
J. Job title: I currently have five jobs! One of them is full time. I am just starting teaching jewellery classes at two different jewellery schools in London. I teach Psychology on Thursday evenings.
K. Kids: Not for me. Just the cat. He’s my baby boy
L. Live: London
M. Mum’s name: Val
N. Nicknames: My family call me Ansy. No one else gets away with this though so don’t try!
O. Overnight hospital stays: I had my adenoids out when I was about five. Luckily no other overnights since
P. Pet peeves: I hate that all cooks in restaurants believe that vegetarians love butternut squash and goats cheese. I hate them both. Honestly, check the veggie option on the next menu you see
Q. Quote from a movie: Weirdly I found this one difficult. I’m not such a movie goer. I guess ‘Marry me’ at the end of New Moon. Love Twilight so much
R. Righty or lefty: Lefty like all us creative types!
S. Siblings: A younger brother and a younger sister
T. Time you wake up: As late as humanly possible.
U. Underwear: M&S mostly. Or American Apparel Very exciting!
V. Vegetables you don’t like: butternut squash. See pet peeves
W. What makes you run late: I tend not to run late. My morning is a well oiled machine. If I’m late it is because of problems on the tube.
I am always insanely early for catching trains. I factor in about half an hour of delays per transport method and end up hanging around stations for about an hour.
X. X-rays you’ve had: Only dental if any. I am fortunate never to have broken anything. Oh. I may have had a chest x-ray when my Dad got pneumonia come to think of it.
Y. Yummy food you make: Baking was always my family favourite. I make great meringues and scones (courtesy of Delia recipes of course)
Z. Zoo animal favourites: I love Monkey World in Dorset so I’d have to say the rescue chimps. They are fascinating to watch. I am never quite sure of zoos but rescue centres like Monkey World are great.

Silver clay on the BBC

If you are reading this blog then you probably already know that I make jewellery with a material called metal clay. It's not a well known material so I was really pleased to see it featuring on a programme on BBC1. The programme is called Countryfile and a metal clay artist called Emma Mitchell was featured, interviewed by Anita Rani. Emma talked about the mental health benefits of getting out into the countryside and getting inspiration from nature and natural surroundings. They picked leaves and other natural materials and used them to make moulds and silver jewellery. It's fantastic that silver clay was featured on TV as it raises awareness of the material. The metal clay world is quite small but I haven't met Emma yet although she is also teaching at the Y ou Can Make It metal clay conference in March so I am looking forward to meeting her there. You can watch the programme here on the BBC iplayer until 6th March 2018 (but only if you're in the UK unfortun...

Business matters article for Making Jewellery magazine

As part of my role for the London Jewellery School I've been writing the Business Matters column in Making Jewellery magazine for six months now. We've been doing an interview series with jewellers on different aspects of jewellery business. However, this month I am actually featured! I wrote an article on getting press coverage which would be relevant for all small businesses. The magazine is available from Smiths and larger supermarkets so do check it out! It's issue 116, March 2018. This image is shared with permission, copyright GMC publications
