Article in the latest issue of Making Jewellery magazine

I'm excited to have an article in the latest issue of Making Jewellery magazine.  Issue 125 is a business and professional issue and my article is on Craft fairs - should you take part? I was fortunate to have help from fellow jewellers Nina Mason, Jackie Moore and Susan Rowley who gave me their opinions and experiences too. It's a great issue so do check it out. You can buy a digital copy here >

The latest issue of Making Jewellery magazine is a metal clay special edition

The lastest issue of Making Jewellery magazine is out now and it’s a metal clay special. I’m really pleased to share that the editor Sian commissioned me to write an article for it on hallmarking metal clay. It is a topic I have spoken on at the You Can Make It residential conference organised by Metal Clay Ltd . To research it I visited the London Assay Office to take a tour (definitely worth getting a tour of your Assay Office if you get the chance, it’s very interesting). My article is on pages 30 and 31 so I hope you have a read! This special issue of Making Jewellery magazine is absolutely fantastic for metal clay artists so do get a copy of it if you can. It’s available from the larger WH Smiths and some supermarkets. If you're not in the UK you can still purchase a digital copy . Artists featured include Anna Mazon , Joy Funnell , Julia Rai , Lisa Cain  and  Tracey Spurgin  and they share some fantastic techniques and projects. Well worth a read.

Business matters article for Making Jewellery magazine

As part of my role for the London Jewellery School I've been writing the Business Matters column in Making Jewellery magazine for six months now. We've been doing an interview series with jewellers on different aspects of jewellery business. However, this month I am actually featured! I wrote an article on getting press coverage which would be relevant for all small businesses. The magazine is available from Smiths and larger supermarkets so do check it out! It's issue 116, March 2018. This image is shared with permission, copyright GMC publications

Behind the scenes at Making Jewellery magazine - writing a silver clay jewellery tutorial

I'm really excited that the silver clay tutorial I wrote for Making Jewellery magazine had been published. I was even more excited that my work was chosen for the front cover! I was commissioned to write the tutorial by Sian Hamilton, the editor of Making Jewellery magazine. Each issue has a theme and the theme for issue 114, January 2018 was fire and ice. I was asked to make six different pieces, write the step by step instructions and take photos as well. It's a lot to do and I didn't have a long time to get it done. I started off thinking about designs. I actually started making a totally different piece but I woke up one morning and decided it wasn't complex enough for a tutorial. It was two days of work and I had to start from scratch but some elements of the idea did stick. I decided to make lentil beads. These are round beads that are domed. It's an interesting project that works well in silver clay with lots of possibilities for beginners and mor...

Crafty Magazines - checking out Mollies Makes

There's been a lot of chat on twitter and blogs in the last few days about a new craft magazine called Mollies Makes . As a bit of a magazine fan I decided to take a look. Issue 1 came out in the UK on 12th May, with some people saying that shops are already out of stock. I managed to find a copy in a Hobbycraft and decided to give it a go. I don't normally buy general craft magazines, preferring ones that are more specific to my crafts. However, I have set up a subscription for this one as I was impressed, even though there wasn't much jewellery. I love the quality of it and it's photos. I also love the house/workspace features. I love home magazines and their features are especially good because it features people making and buying handmade things for their own homes. And with a five pound subscription for the next three issues - I feel that's a bargain! Other magazines that I subscribe to I adore Metal Clay Artist magazine . Silver clay is my main medium and ...
