Saul Bell Design Award 2016 - the winners!

It’s time to take a break! Grab yourself a cup of tea and a biscuit and enjoy some inspiring jewellery! The Saul Bell Design Award is a jewellery design competition which awards ‘an original vision, a fresh take on traditional methods and materials and a mastery of your craft’ The award is split into six categories, with five finalists per category (seven finalists in the emerging artist category). Saul Bell 2012 shortlist

The shortlist for the prestigious Saul Bell design award  2012 have been announced. The prize, now in it's tenth year, awards innovation in the following categories of jewellery making; metal clay, enamel, gold/platinum, silver, hollowware and beads. There is a lot of competition for this prize and to be shortlisted is a real achievement. These are my personal favourite pieces from the shortlist (the full shortlist can be found here ). We'll have to wait until June 2012 to see who wins! Emma Baird Metal Clay category Emma Baird from Edinburgh is the only person from the UK to be shortlisted this year. Metal clay competitions

I have finally received my magnetic polisher after about seven weeks wait and I've stocked up on some clay - I'm ready to go! I have started to look at a few metal clay/jewellery competitions. They give an interesting focus and a deadline to work to. I have found the following competitions. If you know of any more I'd appreciate it if you would add it to the comments section at the bottom of this post. London Jewellery School student competition This competition is open to anyone that has taken a class or is booked to take a class in the future. I have taken a few classes with them. The deadline is next Friday so I don't know if I'm going to make anything new particularly but I think I'll enter something. Art Clay Guild competition The Art Clay Guild theme for this year's competition is 'Fantasy, Myth and Magic'. This has really got me thinking and sketching over the last few weeks.
