Edinburgh jeweller

If you are reading this blog then you probably already know that I make jewellery with a material called metal clay. It's not a well known material so I was really pleased to see it featuring on a programme on BBC1. The programme is called Countryfile and a metal clay artist called Emma Mitchell was featured, interviewed by Anita Rani. Emma talked about the mental health benefits of getting out into the countryside and getting inspiration from nature and natural surroundings. They picked leaves and other natural materials and used them to make moulds and silver jewellery. It's fantastic that silver clay was featured on TV as it raises awareness of the material. The metal clay world is quite small but I haven't met Emma yet although she is also teaching at the Y ou Can Make It metal clay conference in March so I am looking forward to meeting her there. Firstly, sorry for my extended absence on the blog. It's been a really busy few months as we have packed up everything and moved from London to Edinburgh! More on that in future blog posts! Last week I delivered my silver jewellery bee range to the Things British store in Kings Cross St Pancras station, London. Things British sell handcrafted items made in the UK. They work on a rent a shelf basis, are open 7 days a week and the artist gets 100% of the sale price (excluding card fees). I previously sold my jewellery in their other shop in Greenwich, London a couple of years ago and I thought I would give this store a try to see how it goes. Preparing the stock takes time! I decided to focus on my bestselling range which is the bee range and so I have only taken that design. I made the range in different shapes, sizes and jewellery type including cufflinks. Soldering on metal clay at the London Jewellery School Yesterday I taught a soldering on metal clay class at the London Jewellery School . It is quite a specialised class and it is only the second time I've run it . I had three lovely students with an enthusiasm for metal clay! We made stud earrings, cufflinks and a brooch. As I mentioned yesterday, I've been preparing my stock for the Things British shop in Greenwich market , London this weekend. Here are a few pieces that I will be sending in Campbell Hall UK stock for Things British The cufflinks are from my best selling bee collection. I haven't sent cufflinks to Things British before so I'll see how they do. Also new is the butterfly necklace and the leaf pendant. The leaf is made by painting layers of silver onto a real leaf, which burns away in the kiln. Before you ask, I need to get these new pieces into my etsy store too, my shop needs a lot of tlc at the moment! But the priority is getting stock into Things British as I am already paying rent there. An etsy update is coming! The hummingbird has been selling well so I will be sending two versions, the rectangle and the oval. My stock in the Things British shop I was teaching this morning, my last Mary Ward Centre class of this academic year! This afternoon I am working on stock to go into a shop. For a few months now I have been selling some items from my totem collection of silver jewellery in Things British , a shop in Greenwich. It's a shop filled with gorgeous loveliness designed and made by independent artists in the UK. There is not only jewellery but lots of other lovely things including stationery, t shirts, ceramics, soaps and more. It's great for me as I rent a shelf for a period of time and then any money I make is mine. I did well there in the first few months but, honestly, sales haven't been so good in the last month. However, I've had a really busy term and haven't been able to concentrate on replenishing my best sellers or on trying out new items to the range.
